Abstract

The coconut palm has a wide variety of uses in the South Pacific. Islanders use every part of the palm: trunks are used for stools, dried leaves for fire starters, and heavy palms as building material. The coconut shells are cleaned out and dried to use as lasas (kava drinking cups), spoons, and other cooking utensils.
